in fabella

there are a lot of life lessons that i've learned during my stay in fabella. there's also the priceless gift of the lady in my life that occurred during my stay in fabella. it's perhaps the one of the redeeming factor why i'd consider reliving that part of my life (the other being able to work with great friends who i guess i've worked for the last time, i'm sad about that of course).

i was nervous the moment we entered the premises of fabella came day one. the place was familiar. we rotated there during pediatrics. but this time will be different. we were told we will be left alone to tend to patients most of the time. during orientation, we were assigned to different teams. it was endorsed that we had nice residents. good, i thought... that'll make life bearable.

we were lucky. we only had to work half-a-day during our first day. fabella has five posts. duty, from-duty, ward, opd, pre-duty. we were on ward post during our first day which fell on a weekend which meant we can go home lunch time. what we had to do was find our assigned resident's (we were like personal assistants to them, we do whatever they asked us to do which relates to patient-care) patients. do progress notes on them, and then perhaps endorse anything which our resident may want to know. after progress notes for one hour. we go and tend to ward work which means do blood extractions, and send them to the lab and attend to any problematic patients.

we did not have to do opd (out-patient clinic) the next day because it was a sunday. we learned we had other team-mates from 'another' school. we didn't find them that day.

pre-duty day, we encountered our team-mates during progress notes early in the morning. i thought they were nice. hehehe little did i know we'd have something to laugh about all our lives ^_^

duty is TIRING. being a runner will mean... you RUN. i think i toned my calf muscles a lot during 12 hours of going up and down and up and down and up and down the stairs of fabella. i even did things i discovered later was the job of other clerks! but anyway, i learned a lot. the most important thing i think i learned is that i feel confident that i chose the right school to study medicine. verle, kaye and i were the most proud medical students especially when it was endorsement time. i feel confident to attend to three patients giving birth almost at the same time (i had to wear gloves one on top of the other so that after one i'll immediately remove the topmost glove and be ready to catch another baby ^_^). i feel confident to give birth to five multigravid mothers in quick succession. and i feel confident i chose the right path.

i'll post more detailed stories after our written revalida. hehehe

bothered

it has been ages since i have had any effortful output here. i feel the need to see things i've been thinking written, to remind me... albeit they all be in abstract.

i'm being nagged for quite sometime of some things that i've thought i'm so over with. apparently, i'm just being kept busy of everyday tasks i have to do.

i have been pondering whether to jump in the pool. i don't know if it's icy, lukewarm, or hot. whatever, it is, i keep telling "me" to give life one more chance. i've been numbed, that's for sure... and i'm not sure if my defenses will be down enough to let "it" happen. sigh... these are stupid problems as the just recently "me" would think, but a few days have changed "me," i think.

a big sigh ends this, as of this night i have decided that this will be it (may God allow it) or i pray i just be left "be".

-lz

addendum :
i understand we live a life "we" ourselves complicate. i accept everything life throws at me. i hope i will know everything i need to make a decision.

funny...

i prayed for two things during the annual la naval. and... i think one is already being answered (my God! help me) i'm thinking i should have been serious in thinking about it a second time before asking my lady for it... now... IM getting it. bleh... (i do hope the second follows through... definitely)...

Resident's Night 2007

smacked in the middle of our pedia rotation is resident's night, one of USTH's major events of every year where residents show their talents in producing major production numbers with dance, song, and multimedia presentations all happening at the same time hoping to bag the braging rights of winning team for a year.

pediatrics had one goal. to reclaim the trophy. they have won the championship 3 years in a row albeit last year when surgery took it away. so there were no boundaries, sky's the limit to everything! i was tasked in creating a saloon (the year's theme was "resident's go western!"). i was lucky enough that the one i made out of my classmate jen's design was the "more" realistic one than the other departments conjured (haha) ^_^. well... anyway, the whole point of the story is that... we won! i can't wait for the official dvd of the whole event so i can see how the saloon looks like on video ^_^. thank you so much to jen, philip, steff, verle, tin, gelo, miko and the manong from b&g (have i forgoten anyone?) for helping out on creating it.

the high priest and the high priestess

marge is staying with me for two weeks for her rotation in jose reyes. i was really surprised when she really did moved in when she asked me because i've previously offered several times when she rotated in hospitals nearbyl. well.... anyway, it was a lot of fun especially last weekend when we went to glorietta to watch rush hour 4 and then ate at capriciosa in greenbelt 3.

i thought i knew everything about her already... well... almost everything. hehehe it's funny i never knew she liked cold bread (bread from the refrigerator). me. i LOVE bread. everyone who knows me knows that, but NOT cold bread... so i often frown at her when she offers me bread she bought from my own ref. :-(

First Week in Sapang Palay

i've just returned from our first week in sapang palay, bulacan. we're sent there as part of the clerkship curriculum for community, family and preventive medicine. the santo tomas university hospital has a center there called san martin de porres socio-medico community center that provides services for the community and has programs like feeding & nutrition, and livelihood.

mark's birthday celebration in sapang palay

it's fun. we cook, market, and clean for ourselves. we see patients everyday in the opd, and we tour the community for field work. the best part is we get a lot of rest time, especially post-medicine rotation. ^_^
